Real Estate August apartment rents turn positive for the first time in four years
The national median apartment rent in August grew 0.1% from July, moving higher for the seventh straight month, according to Apartment List. While that might seem tiny, it is the first positive rent growth for the month since August 2022.
Rents are still 0.8% lower compared with August of last year, but that drop is shrinking, a sign the rental market is finally beginning to stabilize after several years of rent declines.
Rents saw their steepest decline in April of this year, according to the report, as demand pulled back due to economic uncertainty and concern over the job market. The national median monthly rent now stands at $1,390, down $11 compared with August 2025. LEARN MORE...
